Rosie and Jim
These two are given litre pots as opposed to 9cm pots, only they're going outside. The others will get a fortnightly feed of 4:2:6 fertiliser - that means 4 parts Nitrogen to every 2 parts Phosphorus to every 6 parts Potassium - while Rosie and Jim will get only that which nature provides.
Rosie will hang from the side of a garden structure, right at the top. There will be no saucer on the pot so as to ensure maximum drainage of water, but also maximum leaching out of nutrients from the soil in the pot. Rosie is exposed to less wind than Jim.
Jim will sit on the roof of that same structure, next to Rosie. There'll be a saucer under the pot, which means less nutrient leaching but at the risk of flooding. Jim is exposed to four of Britain's five winds, while Rosie is only exposed to three.
Rosie and Jim will be compared with the outcomes of the Rubus 2 cohort, particularly Milo and Doodle.
Update: they went outside at 0930 on the fifth of December, 2012.
